My recent visit to Dublin staying at The Westbury Hotel in the heart of the city, got me wondering why I don’t venture out to new cities more often. Whilst being amazingly located surrounded by boutiques and new places to dine, The Westbury wasn’t short of velvet cosy corners, delicious food and a number of super chic bar areas (making it quite hard to want to leave).
After a short hop from the airport (approximately 20 minutes if that) we were welcomed to the Westbury *side note* is it something about Irish accents that are so lovely and warm to listen to? The hotel was classic and luxurious with elements of art deco furnishing and lighting along with so much attention to detail from the flowers, dimly lit crannies, soft throws on dining chairs and amazing suede benches in the lifts (elevators for ya’ll Americans) – who wouldn’t want to have a bench in a lift? The hotel suite where I stayed was absolutely huge which is so lovely for a city escape, whilst being equipped with a bottle of bubbles at the ready along with an abundance of Caramel Cups at arms reach. I do love that feeling of getting into a lux and cosy hotel room and flopping after a flight because it feels like a fresh slate and new home (just for a moment).
We were lucky enough to get a walking tour around the city by The Fashion Editor of the Irish Times Deirdre McQuillan, where we stopped at Sheridens one of Dublins renowned cheesemongers, the bespoke milliner Anthony Peto, a boutique perfumer called Perfumarija with the most amazingly curated selection of smells and finally ended up at the gorgeous jewellery boutique Loulerie where I got a beautiful pair of gold hoops – LOVE a gold hoop. What a treat.
During our stay we dined to our hearts content enjoying breakfast at Balfes which had an abundance of brunch favourites plus some healthy options too (I ordered a turmeric almond latte) – it almost had that New Yorky vibe to it. We were lucky enough to experience a cocktail making session with Head Mixologist, Michael Lis followed by dinner at Wilde Restaurant where there were things like lobster mash on the menu to which I needn’t say much more – it was incredible. What a great city break it was. x
