A Touch Of Velvet

a touch of velvet

Some very gorgeous pieces I have my eye on this season.

Velvet comes back every October, and every October I have the same thought: I love it, but I don’t want to look like I’m going to a party at ten in the morning. The trick, I’ve learnt, is to treat it like denim’s dressier friend. Every piece here works with a white or grey T-shirt and your favourite jeans.

Something to liven up your wardrobe for events, or just a touch of glam for the season. One velvet piece at a time, gold earrings, and that’s it.

The velvet jacket

This is where I’d start. A velvet jacket over a white T-shirt and straight jeans is the easiest way to look like you’ve made an effort without trying. Bronze if you’re feeling brave, black if you’re not, and the chocolate one if you want something a little more structured for dinner.

The evening top

For the nights you want to feel dressed up but still like yourself. Tuck either one into dark denim, add a heel and you’re done. The satin is the softer option. The velvet halter is the one people will ask about.

The statement skirt

If you’d rather keep your top half simple, let the skirt do the work. A grey sweatshirt or a fitted black jumper is all you need. Fringe, florals or a little gold. Pick your mood.
