Colour Matching with Clinique

Last week I made a recce to the Clinique store in Londons Covent Garden to try Beyond Perfecting, the all in one foundation and concealer. I will admit that in the past couple of years, I am a regular wearer of foundation on my skin and do enjoy the process of applying it on my skin in general. I often need to give myself a little nudge to re adjust my colours according to what my skin is up to at the time, whether it’s after holiday and getting few shades darker from the sun or a general breakout. I always like to have a trusted bottle of goodness to smooth me over whatever the weather.

Going into store (any Clinique counter) to try a foundation is highly recommended as you get that one to one time with the beautician to colour match you properly. There’s nothing worse than buying a foundation, only to find out at home that it’s too yellow or red for your skin tone. If you’re anything like myself it’s likely that you have a slightly uneven skin tone in different areas of your skin. I tend to be prone to a little bit of redness on my cheeks and also have slight pigmentation on my forehead which is actually a birthmark (ugh). This is where Beyond Perfecting is great because it acts as a foundation and concealer all in one where you can spot correct. In order to get full use out of it the ‘magic wand’ applicator allows you to layer it on places where you want more coverage (forehead) and smooth out thinner with a brush or your fingers if you want lighter coverage (on my jawlines and upper cheekbone).

I have annotated the images below so you can see the steps of how I found my exact match of the Beyond Perfecting foundation and concealer, and the rest of my make up look. I matched with 10 Honey Wheat which was pretty much perfect, with a close call with 8.25 Oat which I actually got too, because I love to mix slightly. Either way if I do just wear the same foundation all over, I will lift up my cheeks with a blusher and moisten up my lips with a tint. We thought the first two were more my colour and the one on the far right was much too light.

We took it off the lighter shade to add more of to add more of something similar

On goes the Honey Wheat (10) with the magic wand which is my shade.

Smoothing out and blending in the foundation with the Buffer Brush which allows you to spread it quite thinly and also dab it wherever you want to layer it for more coverage.

Adding a little bit of blush to to brighten up my cheeks.
